The Oregon Trail helped to change how the United States grew. It helped to move the population westward from the overpopulated East. If it was not for the Oregon Trail, many of the western states would not be or even look like they do today. The trail also helped spread culture and religious beliefs. The Oregon Trail was one of the greatest influences in American history.
As more and more people crossed the Oregon Trail, the West filled up more and the East became less packed. Before the Oregon Trail, people were complaining that the East was to packed. When the trail developed, many people were relieved that there was a place with more space and firtile land. As the Oregon Trail became more and more popular, the population balanced out from being one place empty and one overpopulated, to an equaly distributed population.
The Oregon Trail completely changed the United States because it was the only possible way to get to the West, other than going all the way around South America. The trail was the only reason why travelers made it to the West before the Transcontinental Railroad was finished. As a result, states could have been formed differently. Some of these states included Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho and Utah. If it wasn't for the Oregon Trail most western states would not look like how they do today.
As people traveled westward, their culture and religous beliefs followed. If travelers had not been on the Oregon Trail other religions would have dominated the west. Native American culture and religion could have probably been the main customs. eventually, the British would have ended up mainting the beliefs of the Oregon Territory. The Oregon Trail could have changed the whole religious beliefs and cultures of the west.
